Halle (dpa / sa) - The train traffic on the route between the main station in Halle and Angersdorf is to be suspended for about a year.

The reason for this is extensive construction projects that lasted until December 2021, Deutsche Bahn announced on Friday.

Among other things, three bridges, tracks and platforms are to be renewed.

The construction project also provides for further noise protection measures.

The S7, RE8, RE9 and RB75 would not run for almost a year, said the railway company Abellio.

Among other things, there were economic reasons behind the full closure, explained Lars Hoffmann from DB Netz AG.

A partial closure with restricted rail traffic would unnecessarily prolong the project and increase the costs disproportionately.

"The time window that is available to us requires full closure."

The lock should begin on January 14th.

The route between Halle-Rosengarten and Angersdorf forms part of an outer ring around Halle.

It is part of a major Deutsche Bahn project that involves the renovation and expansion of the entire Halle rail hub.
