Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - With a view to starting school after the Christmas holidays, teachers' representatives fear chaos at schools under corona conditions.

"At the moment, nobody knows how many children will be in elementary schools and in the fifth and sixth grades of secondary schools in the coming week," said the chairman of the Education and Science Union (GEW) Hessen, Maike Wiedwald, on Friday in Frankfurt.

"You cannot prepare good lessons on this basis," said Wiedwald.

Hesse's state government provides "with its conceptless approach for chaotic conditions in schools."

The general association of teachers at vocational schools in Hesse, the working group of independent teachers in Hesse and the association of teachers in Hesse also criticized in a joint communication.

It is to be expected that two thirds to three quarters of the children will make use of the classroom offer and come to school.

For Hesse's students, classes in the classroom are to be largely eliminated by the end of January due to the corona pandemic.

According to the decision of the state government's Corona cabinet, children in grades 1 to 6 do not have to come to schools to study until January 31.

The attendance requirement is suspended for these students.

However, going to school is possible if the parents have to go to work and cannot look after them at home.

The children would then be taught in fixed study groups at school, as Minister of Education Alexander Lorz (CDU) had explained.

For students from grade 7, with the exception of final grades, only distance lessons are offered in the next three weeks.
