Kiel / Berlin (dpa / lno) - Schleswig-Holstein will receive the first delivery of corona vaccine from the US manufacturer Moderna next week.

Initially, according to dpa information, there should be 2400 doses.

The delivery of a total of 38,400 cans to Schleswig-Holstein is planned by the end of February.

The moderna vaccine is the second corona vaccine approved in Europe after the one from Biontech / Pfizer.

The 16 federal states are to receive the first delivery of the preparation on Tuesday, as a spokesman for the Federal Ministry of Health announced in Berlin on Friday.

The EU Commission approved the Moderna vaccine on Wednesday on the recommendation of the EMA drug authority.

On this Friday, according to the spokesman, another 668,000 doses of the product from the German company Biontech and its US partner Pfizer were delivered as planned.

Around 24,000 vaccine doses arrived in Schleswig-Holstein on Friday.

This was confirmed by the Ministry of Health in Kiel.

According to the Federal Ministry of Health, five more deliveries of the same size are to follow by mid-February.

This would increase the total number of Biontech / Pfizer vaccine doses for the north to 195,000 since the end of December.

Germany is to receive over 50 million of the more than 160 million Moderna cans ordered across the EU.

In the first quarter, due to the initially limited production capacity, only just under two million Moderna cans will come to Germany.

According to the EU Commission, the entire 160 million cans are to be delivered by September.

According to the current status, Germany is to receive a total of 140 million cans from Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna.

Around 60 million cans from Biontech / Pfizer are to go to Germany from the EU treaties, and another 30 million from bilateral agreements.

According to the Federal Ministry of Health, the around 140 million doses are enough to create herd immunity in Germany.
