Karlsruhe (dpa / lsw) - The Karlsruhe public prosecutor is conducting preliminary investigations against a member of the AfD parliamentary group in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg.

A spokesman for the authority confirmed this on Friday.

There is suspicion of forgery of documents, forgery of evidence-relevant data, defamation and defamation in several cases.

According to the public prosecutor's office, offices in the state parliament were searched.

The authority did not provide details.

The "Südwest Presse" had previously reported on investigations against the MP Rainer Balzer.

The AfD MP had asked the state parliament to lift his immunity at the beginning of November so that he could prove his innocence.

The reason are allegations that he spread false suspicions about his deputy in the Karlsruhe-Land district under another name.

Balzer denies this.

"The allegations are completely baseless," he emphasized on Friday.

He had asked the Ministry of Justice for clarification because of the "completely excessive house searches".

"The public prosecutor's office turns itself into the political bully of an inferior political competitor who neither wants to accept nor can cope with her defeat," said Balzer.
