Neither lawyer Niklas Kappel nor prosecutor Kjell Jannesson want to comment further on the type of illness it is about.

Only that it is a physical illness, which may have had an effect on how the man drove the car.

- From what we understood, there would be some kind of doctor's statement or referral procedure, but we must have an independent doctor who will look at such a thing, says Kjell Jannesson.

Close drive on others

It was on July 22 this summer that the man drove on the family near the Joelsudde camping area in Färjestaden on Öland.

The 45-year-old mother and her 15-year-old son were injured in the crash.

The father and another son escaped with injuries.

According to Kjell Jannesson, the 56-year-old, who was previously unpunished and was sober at the time, was very close to driving on others who were next to the road shortly before the accident.

Among other things, a mother with a pram.

Examined after the accident

A small mental examination has been done by the 56-year-old.

It shows that he may have suffered from a serious mental disorder while driving.

But now the man's defender states that even a physical illness can explain how he drove.

He himself says that he does not remember anything from the accident.

Do you think it will make any difference to the question of guilt if it turns out that he also suffered from a physical illness while driving?

- No I do not think so.

We did some direct medical examinations of the suspect and there was nothing then that indicated what the defense now claims, says Kjell Jannesson.

The defense: "Can not be excluded"

SVT has sought the man's lawyer Niklas Kappel who comments via text message: “The defense is of the opinion that it can not be ruled out that my client suffered from a medical condition, which caused the accident.

An investigation of this is underway ", he writes.
