Kim Jong-un: DPRK will continue to improve nuclear weapons

"It is necessary to do so as to actively and completely contain and control the military threat that is forced on the Korean Peninsula, improving nuclear technology, reducing the size and weight and increasing the strategic power of nuclear weapons," the North Korean leader said.

He stressed the need to develop strategic nuclear weapons "which could be used in modern war in a variety of ways, depending on the target and the purpose of the operation."

In October 2020, Kim Jong-un noted that North Korea is building up its military power only for self-defense, the country does not intend to use it first.
