The cold wave does not spare the Loire-Atlantique department.
Temperatures felt below -5 ° C at night and negative during the day are announced from this Friday evening.
As a result, the prefecture launched the Cold Weather plan.
This device entails the provision of a gymnasium by the city of Nantes for the protection of homeless people.
This is the Joël-Paon gymnasium.
The site, which has a capacity of 25 places, opened at 7 p.m.
It is managed by the Civil Protection first aiders.
In Saint-Nazaire too
Social street patrols are also stepped up in the Nantes conurbation and in Saint-Nazaire.
Some 34 additional emergency accommodation places are also open in homes and hotels in Nantes and Nazaire.
As a reminder, the Emile-Morice gymnasium, on the island of Nantes, already requisitioned since November for the shelter of precarious people in the context of the Covid-19 health crisis.
It is also managed by Civil Protection.
