In the old glassworks area in Orrefors, where glass has been manufactured since the end of the 19th century, there are heavy metals that must be removed from the ground.

These include 17 tonnes of arsenic, 62 tonnes of lead and 1.6 tonnes of cadmium.

In addition, it is about hazardous waste that lies in open days in direct connection to the river and a water protection area.

"We get no answers"

But the owners of the property have not been able to get in touch with the municipality.

- We have tried to get in touch with them, both via mail and email and phone calls.

But we get no answers, says Karin Bernefalk who is an environmental inspector in Nybro.

For several years, the municipality has sought to get in touch with the owners of the property, as the municipality is very concerned that the area should be rehabilitated because no new activities can be relevant before the remediation is complete.

- We need help to be able to come forward in this work, says Christina Davidsson and tells that the municipality has contacted members of parliament in the hope that the issue of remediation responsibility can be raised higher.

Great concern

And in Orrefors community association, there is great concern that the uncontaminated glassworks area will hamper the future development of society.

- We are afraid that this is falling into disrepair and will be a big mess in the middle of our beautiful society, says Karin Heideman from Orrefors community association.

SVT has searched in vain for the current owner for a comment.
