The head of the US Department of Education Betsy Devos decided to leave her post due to the events in the Capitol.

“We must celebrate and celebrate the many achievements that your administration has made in the interests of the American people.

Instead, we are forced to clean up the mess created by the aggressive protesters who flooded the US Capitol in an attempt to prevent people from doing their jobs, ”says the Minister's resignation letter to Trump, quoted by The Hill.

Devos called the protesters' behavior "shameless" towards the United States.

“Their behavior was shameless towards our country.

There is no doubt about the effect that your statements made on this situation, and for me this is a turning point, "the politician stated.

"Save your own reputation"

Earlier, the US Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao announced her intention to leave her post.

The reason for this decision was also the riots that engulfed Washington on January 6.

She posted her letter of resignation on Twitter.

“Yesterday our country experienced a very painful event that could have definitely been prevented,” the document says.

Chao recalled that Trump supporters broke into the Capitol building after a rally at which the incumbent spoke.

“I, as I am sure, and many of you, are concerned about what happened so much that I simply cannot stand aside,” the minister stressed.

It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the US Department of Transportation.

Also on January 8, the media reported the resignation of four senior advisers to the White House's National Security Council in connection with recent events.

Senior Director of African Affairs Erin Walsh, Senior Director of Defense Policy Mark Wandroff, Senior Director of Weapons of Mass Destruction Anthony Rugierro and Senior Director of Middle East and North Africa Rob Greenway have left their posts, Reuters reported.

In addition, Matt Pottinger, Deputy White House National Security Advisor, resigned earlier, as reported by Bloomberg and CNN, citing a source close to the official.

On the air of CNBC, Special Envoy to Northern Ireland Mick Mulvaney, who previously headed the White House apparatus, openly announced his resignation.

“Those who prefer to stay - I spoke with some of them - stay because they are worried that the president will put someone worse in their place,” Mulvaney said.

However, he said, after the storming of the Capitol, other officials may also resign.

The head of administration of the first lady Melania Trump and ex-director of public relations of the White House Stephanie Grisham resigned from her post.

She wrote about this decision on Twitter.

Note that Grisham is one of the "long-livers" of the Trump administration, she worked in his campaign headquarters since 2015.

Anna Christina Niketa, Secretary of the White House for Protocol Affairs, also resigned after the events in Congress.

This was reported by CNN with reference to a representative of the presidential administration.

According to experts, such a "parade of resignations" speaks of the desire of officials to "distance themselves as much as possible" from the Trump figure.

“The actions of the president in this situation can be interpreted as an attempt to provoke a coup in the country.

In any case, such steps are categorically condemned by the American political elite, and all these officials want to remain in its ranks.

Therefore, they are now trying to move away from Trump, "said Vladimir Bruter, an expert at the International Institute for Humanitarian and Political Research, in an interview with RT.

He does not exclude that there will be new layoffs in the Trump administration before Biden's inauguration.

“Much depends on how the situation will develop.

If the Democrats now try to oust Trump by impeachment, then officials from his administration simply will not have time to leave their posts, ”Bruter said.

A similar point of view is shared by American political scientist Malek Dudakov.

“Those who are currently retiring see their future in the Republican Party and want to preserve their own reputation.

Moreover, now the Democrats have raised the issue of Trump's early removal, and they will try to involve the White House administration in this process.

Few politicians would like to take part in such a thing, so they simply quit amid the political crisis.

And these resignations are far from being the last until January 20, ”Dudakov said.

Spontaneous putsch

Recall that a meeting was scheduled in the US Congress on January 6, during which lawmakers were to approve Joe Biden's victory in the presidential election.

The session was to be chaired by the incumbent Vice President Mike Pence.

At the same time, on the eve of Trump said that Pence allegedly could reject the votes of the Electoral College from the states that are disputable, according to the current head of the White House.

The American leader continues to talk about his disagreement with the official voting results.

He claims that the election was rigged in favor of Biden.

However, the courts to which the Trump team filed claims did not confirm these allegations.

Against this background, Trump, back in December, began urging his supporters to come to a protest on January 6 at the Congress building.

The politician continued to talk about the presence of some "irrefutable evidence" of election fraud and called the vote "the biggest scam" in US history.

Trump supporters gathered for a rally in Washington on the designated day.

The President addressed them with a speech in which he again questioned Joe Biden's victory and urged citizens to head towards Congress.

“I know that everyone present here will soon participate in the march to the Capitol building in order to ensure that they are heard through peaceful and patriotic methods.

Today we will see if the Republicans can show resilience for the sake of the integrity of our elections, "- said the head of the White House.

However, the protest quickly escalated into clashes with the police, the protesters broke into the congress building.

They managed to occupy the Senate Hall and several offices, including the seat of the Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.

As a result, the meeting was interrupted, the legislators were evacuated.

In turn, Trump made a video message in which he condemned the actions of his supporters who broke into the Capitol.

Five people became victims of the riots.

One of the victims was a police officer, he died from his wounds already in the hospital.

According to Vladimir Bruter, the responsibility for what happened lies with Donald Trump.

“Probably, he hoped to put pressure on Mike Pence so that he would reject some of the electoral votes.

But when you gather such a large crowd, you need to be clear about what to do next.

And Trump, apparently, did not calculate his further actions.

And people just went their own way, judging that one rally was not enough, ”the expert says.

Foggy prospects

However, the protests in the end did not prevent Congress from approving Joe Biden's victory.

Trump, in turn, announced his readiness to transfer power on time, despite his disagreement with the voting results.

"And while this is the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, this is just the beginning of our struggle to restore America to its former greatness!"

- said in his statement.

However, experts doubt that Donald Trump will be able to continue his political activities and again run for the highest government post.

“Trump has no chance to speak in 2024.

The top of the Republican Party is trying to distance themselves from him as much as possible, and before they just put up with him.

Of course, Trump still has many followers among ordinary Republicans.

The question is whether he can use it, ”Bruter said.

He suggested that Trump might try to pull his supporters out of the GOP by creating his own political force.

“But this initiative will have no prospects.

The most that Trump can do is to weaken the Republicans, since he will never be able to convince the party elite, ”the analyst said.

Malek Dudakov, on the other hand, believes that the 45th US president has every chance of continuing his political career.

“Trump enjoys tremendous support from ordinary Republicans, he does not need the support of the party establishment.

Trump has been "breaking" this elite for four years, so its current indignation will not hurt him, "the expert said.

In his opinion, neither recent events nor a series of resignations can significantly reduce Trump's popularity among the Republican electorate.

“It is obvious that the republican elite will have to reckon with this.

The party needs his voters, so its establishment will generally try to get away with criticizing Trump so as not to scare away his supporters from themselves.

The resignations of officials are only situational steps of the representatives of the elite.

However, in the future, new “battles” are coming between the Trumpists and the establishment, ”predicts Dudakov.
