Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The CDU and the Greens have teamed up in the Düsseldorf city council.

Black-green now wants to make the state capital the «climate capital», as stated in the cooperation agreement published on Friday.

The two parties call the controversial Düsseldorf environmental trail “failed”.

They should be lifted in the first quarter.

Before the local elections, a “traffic light alliance” made up of the SPD, Greens and FDP had a majority in the council.

The head of the city has been taken over by the CDU man Stephan Keller from the elected mayor Thomas Geisel (SPD).

During his tenure, three environmental lanes were introduced, on which only electric cars were allowed to drive in addition to buses or bikes.

This test had "failed", says the cooperation paper between the CDU and the Greens: "We will therefore remove the environmental lanes again and take other measures to improve air quality and also to promote cycling."

According to the will of Black-Green, Düsseldorf should be climate-neutral by 2035.

An additional EUR 60 million is to be made available for climate protection every year.
