Schwandorf (AP) - A woman broke into a hospital in Upper Palatinate and pretended to be a doctor and midwife.

The 29-year-old managed to get a newborn from the infant ward, as the Schwandorf hospital announced on Thursday.

Employees had alerted the police.

At the maternity ward, the woman pretended to be a midwifery student.

When a nurse who was changing a baby was called to see a patient, the woman was left alone in the room.

The clinic said that she took a mobile cot with a child and moved around the hospital for a few minutes.

Employees confronted her, saying the woman looked confused.

The baby was unharmed.

The woman did not give the impression that she wanted to leave the clinic with the child.

According to their own statements, the police are now investigating the woman because of the kidnapping of minors.

According to the findings, she came through a side entrance to the clinic's laundry area on Tuesday, where she put on a doctor's coat.

She first went to various stations and offered her help, for example with clearing the dishes.
