According to the Hamburg street magazine "Hinz & Kunzt", four homeless people have died on the street in the past few days since New Year's Eve.

Apparently the homeless are weakened like never before, said "Hinz & Kunzt" social worker Stephan Karrenbauer.

"Politicians are called upon to immediately take measures so that dying on the street can finally come to an end."

On New Year's Eve, according to "Hinz & Kunzt", a homeless man was found dead near the jetties.

The 48-year-old man slept with other homeless people on a green area near the jetties.

On the night of Monday, a passer-by discovered the body of another homeless person in cold, wet weather.

The 45-year-old man had apparently slept under the roof of an apartment building in Altonaer Virchowstrasse.

On New Year's Day, a homeless man died in Schanzenpark, a day later another died in Altona's main cemetery - presumably while trying to cook food in his tent.

The investigation into the causes of death continues in all cases.
