The pro-Trump Republican elected officials played an important role in what took place on Wednesday on the Capitol in Washington and in particular the Texan elected officials.
Their colleagues accuse them of having incited the riot.

Ken Paxton had already made a name for himself with an attempt in the Supreme Court to strike down the election results in several states (Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin).
Soon after,
Senator Ted Cruz
, who is said to have his sights set on the 2024 presidential election, led a dozen senators to challenge Joe Biden's victory and the choice of the voters.

Let me make it clear to you that this challenge concerns the state of Arizona, but it is broader than that.
"
But several
Texan
Republicans
are today hailed for their opposition to Ted Cruz, like Chip Roy, elected from the Austin area.

The president shouldn't have made some Americans believe something that is just plain wrong.
I am not going to vote to contest the vote of the voters.
This vote could well sign my political death warrant.
But so be it.
I have sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States and I will not go against it for the sake of political expediency.
"
Today, the Democrats of Texas are demanding the resignation of Ted Cruz like that of the 15 other Texas elected officials who despite the violence still voted against the certification of Joe Biden.
In a statement, another Texan, former President George Bush said he was "
appalled by the reckless behavior of some political leaders since the election
."
