During the autumn, Ivo examined how the country's regions treated people with suspected or confirmed covid-19 in special housing.

At Region Sörmland, Ivo discovered, among other things, major shortcomings in the records.

There is a lack of information on how care was provided at the end of life, if patients and relatives received information about what decisions were made and why.

A decision on measures will be made on Tuesday

- We take the criticism to heart.

We think it is good that the inspection has been done and has made an action plan that the regional board will take a position on on Tuesday to ensure as good care as possible, says Marie Bennermo, head of the patient safety unit in Region Sörmland.

One of the proposed measures is that the journal documentation should be clearer and more equal regardless of which principal the special accommodation has.

Efforts will be made to increase the competence of the municipalities' nursing staff in, among other things, diseases associated with aging and palliative care.

Patrol rounds from a patient perspective

Another measure is that the region should regularly start conducting patient protection rounds at all special housing, both municipal and private.

- We normally do this in hospitals and clinics, but not in special accommodation.

So we will start with that in the spring, says Marie Bennermo.

Believes that the criticism was at times too harsh

While Region Sörmland admits that there have been shortcomings, there is some criticism that the region defends itself against.

One of the shortcomings that was pointed out in Sörmland was that individual medical assessments were not carried out properly.

- We do not think that Ivo has included in its analysis that we have high medical continuity in Region Sörmland.

The doctors who work for special accommodation have good knowledge of the patients, that is an important part, says Marie Bennermo.

In his journal review, Ivo has found notes that

that Region Sörmland has issued a general directive that patients should not be sent to hospital.

That is not true, according to Marie Bennermo.

- We have asked Ivo why they got it but have not received an answer yet, she says.
