  • In the 170 collection points in the capital, the trees will be crushed and used as a natural weedkiller.

  • If you throw away your tree after January 20, you can take out your tree at the same time as the green-lidded “household waste” bins in your building.

Every year, the same catchphrase.

After the end of the year celebrations, Parisians who have bought a Christmas tree - or "a dead tree" - are trying to get rid of it by all means.

If several collection points have been set up by the City of Paris, many trees are still found abandoned on the sidewalk, naked or simply dressed in their golden bag.

Yet your tree can experience a second life.

Or rather a second death.

Are we re-playing the tree hunters?

The rules are simple: you have to tweet the photo of an abandoned tree with the hashtag #chasseursdesapins.

The later they are captured, the more points they are worth: each day since Christmas is added 1 point.

I keep the scores.

From December 26 to January 20, nearly 170 collection points are open in the parks and gardens of the capital.

No more destruction by the flames, the trees are now "crushed on site and reused to protect plantations in green spaces", indicates the town hall, which once again invites Parisians to turn massively to its collection points distributed in all the regions. boroughs.

Because wild deposits remain numerous.

115,252 fir trees harvested in 2020

“Each year, the City makes sure it can recycle the trees collected as much as possible, but too many illegal dumps on the public highway are still observed by the officers, it's a shame!

We have set up 170 collection points throughout Paris to allow Parisians to drop them off near their homes so that they can be reused as shredded material ”

, Colombe Brossel, deputy of Anne Hidalgo in charge

, explained to

20 Minutes.

the cleanliness of public spaces, sorting and waste reduction.

“At the start of 2020, the operation had made it possible to harvest 115,252 fir trees, which represents nearly 2,300 m3

of broyat, the equivalent of an Olympic swimming pool ”, one indicates to the City of Paris.

He added: “The ground fir being particularly acidic, it is not suitable for use in compost;

on the other hand, its anti-germination properties are perfect for limiting the proliferation of weeds in an ecological way.

It acts as a natural weedkiller ”.

No transport therefore for the tree, which is destroyed and disseminated on its place of deposit.

There are collection points in particular at Square Villemin (10th arrondissement), Parc Monceau (8th) or even at Square de la Roquette (11th arrondissement).

Note that trees with flocking or other decoration cannot be recycled.

No bag, even compostable, should also be placed with the tree.

And if you really insist on leaving it downstairs, remember that leaving the tree on the sidewalk is punishable by law.

It will cost you a fine of 68 to 180 euros.

Finally, if you throw away your tree after January 20, you can take out your tree at the same time as the “household waste” bins with green cover in your building.

It will be picked up by the household garbage collection dump truck.

Be careful, if it measures more than 2.5 meters, it must be cut in half.

And if you really are still not convinced by recycling, you can give a playful dimension to your drop-off point by trying your hand at throwing trees.

A discipline in its own right which is starting to gain some followers in the capital.
