Landsberg am Lech (dpa / lby) - In the Landsberg am Lech district, a wolf first became a victim of a traffic accident.

As the State Office for the Environment (LfU) announced on Thursday, the animal was found dead on Tuesday.

The cause of death was clearly clarified on the basis of the results of the investigation by the Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (IZW) in Berlin, said an LfU spokesman.

All wolves found dead in Germany are handed over to the IZW for scientific investigation.

In Bavaria there are eight local wolves or wolf packs.

In addition, individual wolves are detected almost every week elsewhere, including the last one at the end of December in the Bayreuth district.

According to the LfU, these are mostly migrating animals that have left their parental pack and are looking for their own area.
