Berlin (dpa / bb) - For the people in Berlin and Brandenburg, life has only become a little more expensive last year, according to official data.

On average, the prices in Berlin were 0.5 percent higher than a year earlier, in Brandenburg it was 0.6 percent, as the statistical office of both countries announced on Wednesday.

The prices rose not even half as much as in 2019.

The average value was so low mainly because the lower oil price made heating and refueling significantly cheaper.

On the other hand, food prices rose by 2.9 percent in Brandenburg and 2.4 percent in Berlin, about twice as much as in 2019.

According to the data, the net rents also continued to rise, but in Berlin with an increase of 0.7 percent only half as much as in the previous year.

In Brandenburg the increase was almost unchanged at 1.6 percent.
