Widening gaps

In 2019, a managing director of a company belonging to the FTSE-100 stock index, which is made up of the UK's largest caps, received an average of £ 3.46million.

Employees, for their part, gained about 31,461 pounds over the year 2020, according to figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (ONS).

“The pay of big bosses is 120 times higher than that of an average worker in the UK.

Estimates suggest that it was 50 times at the turn of the millennium or 20 times in the early 1980s, ”said the director of the center.

"Proportionate remuneration"

This study nevertheless tends to prove that the remuneration of large bosses did not increase over this period, unlike that of employees.

Indeed, the former must now work 34 hours to earn as much as the latter in a year, against 33 hours last year.

"Our members call on companies to ensure that the remuneration of CEOs is proportionate and aligned with their performance," responded one of the officials of the British association of asset managers Investment Association.
