Hanover (dpa / lni) - Because they are said to have stolen and resold robotic lawnmowers on a large scale, three men have been standing before the Hanover regional court since Wednesday.

The defendants, aged between 31 and 45, are accused of serious gang theft.

They are said to have broken into hardware stores and garden centers between November 2019 and July 2020 and obtained up to 150,000 euros by reselling their loot.

According to the indictment, the crime scenes were Wunstorf, Isernhagen, Hanover, Tostedt in the Harburg district, Wolfsburg and the North Rhine-Westphalian cities of Hamm and Wesseling.

On the first day of the trial, there were talks between those involved about an understanding that should come about at the next hearing, said a court spokesman.

This could shorten the process and the verdict could be announced on January 20.

The public prosecutor was convinced that the three defendants had intended to earn a living by stealing and reselling the robotic lawnmowers.

They are said to have been supported by other perpetrators who have not yet been identified.

According to the spokesman, employees of affected garden centers were questioned as witnesses on Wednesday.
