Chairman of the regional parliament Valery Raenko expressed his condolences to Biryukov's family and all residents of Kamchatka.
“Today we have all suffered a great loss.
A legendary man, a leader with a capital letter, has passed away, for whom Kamchatka and the well-being of fellow countrymen have always been the main priority in their work, ”he noted.
Biryukov was the governor of Kamchatka from 1991 to 2000.
In 2004 he was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the Kamchatka Region.
In mid-November, at the age of 85, the first president of Buryatia, Leonid Potapov, who ruled the republic from 1994 to 2007, died.
