Dresden (dpa / sn) - Saxony remains the nationwide negative leader in the corona pandemic with a view to the incidence.

On Wednesday, around 262 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants were registered within 7 days, according to the latest figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

The day before, the 7-day value in the Free State was 299. Nationwide, an incidence of 127.3 was determined on Tuesday morning.

It is difficult to interpret the data because, according to the RKI, corona cases were discovered, recorded and transmitted with a delay around Christmas and the turn of the year.

According to the Association of Accredited Laboratories in Medicine (ALM), the number of laboratory tests for the coronavirus fell again over the turn of the year compared to Christmas week.

Compared to the week before Christmas, the number has roughly halved in the past week.

The RKI assumes that the reporting data on the occurrence of the infection can only be used again at the end of next week / beginning of the week after next.

Overall, since the pandemic began last March, Saxony has had 143 122 corona infections - 2120 more than the day before.

In the Vogtlandkreis the incidence value fell within two days from 631.9 to the current 196.9.

According to District Administrator Rolf Keil (CDU), the very high numbers were obviously due to failures in the Plauen health department.

Accordingly, an enormous backlog had formed in the authority when processing the infection cases.

According to the RKI, the district of Meißen has the highest incidence value of 457.1 across the country and nationwide.
