Apple has added social and environmental responsibility criteria for the calculation of bonuses for its senior executives, according to documents filed Tuesday with the American Financial Markets Authority (SEC).

The change will come into effect this year, and aims to motivate group leaders "to achieve exceptionally high levels of leading teams with values, in addition to achieving strong financial results," the Silicon Valley group said in these documents transmitted to the American stock market policeman.

These criteria will now be taken into account by Apple when deciding whether the bonuses for its managers should be increased or reduced, up to 10%, according to Apple, which cites, among the values it announces to promote, sustainable energy, diversity in the workplace, as well as other social and environmental issues.

The financial goals that executives must achieve to receive their bonus will not change, said the maker of iPhones.

"We believe that diversity is the engine of innovation and is the key to our success," the group also said in this document.
