Berlin (dpa) - At the German WorldTour cycling team DSM, known under the name Sunweb until last season, a top driver's contract was again prematurely terminated.

The Swiss World Cup third and last year's Tour stage winner Marc Hirschi has agreed with the team on an immediate end to the contract that runs until December 2021.

The former German top sprinter Marcel Kittel (end of 2015) and ex-Giro winner Tom Dumoulin from the Netherlands (end of 2019) had already agreed with the team on an early departure in the past.

According to a press release, DSM and Hirschi did not want to comment on the move.

It is also unclear where the professional cyclist will move to.

The only 22-year-old Swiss made his breakthrough in cycling this year after the Corona break.

Hirschi drove a strong Tour de France with a stage win and two other top three placings, won the Flèche Wallonne, came second in the classic Liège-Bastogne-Liège and took third place at the World Championships in Imola.
