From Thursday 7 January, mouth protection is recommended in public transport during certain times.

The General Council applies throughout the country and is aimed at everyone born before 2004.

Will not be rejected

But there are still some practical question marks.

For example: What happens to a passenger who walks on the bus without a mouth guard?

Nothing, according to the organization Svensk Kollektivtrafik, which writes in a press release that they will not reject travelers without mouth guards.

- We have no legal options to stop someone without a mouth guard.

It is not the driver's or staff's responsibility, says Johan Wadman to SVT.

The organization instead urges travelers to take responsibility and follow the new rules.

- We will inform the passengers in different ways, both via information boards but also in the exclamation buses and trains, says Johan Wadman.

Will not be offered on board

According to the Swedish Public Health Agency's guidelines, public transport must offer mouth protection to those who do not have their own.

But the mouth guards will not be found on board buses, trains or trams.

Anyone who wants to get a mouthguard must instead turn to travel centers and train stations.

- Distributing mouth guards on board would be a huge distribution challenge.

We want to focus on what we are good at, that is, driving public transport in a safe and good way, says Johan Wadman.
