A 40-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter were shot dead in the suburbs of Noumea (New Caledonia) on Sunday.

The suspect is the teenager's companion.

"The alleged perpetrator has been arrested and is in the process of being heard," said the duty prosecutor at the Nouméa prosecutor's office, who confirmed "the double homicide", but did not wish to give details.

Arguments reportedly erupted during the day between the teenager and her 19-year-old friend, who had recently had a baby.
