Arnstadt (dpa / th) - After several dog bites, a police officer in Arnstadt, according to his authority, took up his service weapon and shot the animal so badly that it succumbed to its injuries.
The officers had followed up an emergency call, according to which a child should be in an emergency, the police said on Tuesday.
When the police officers arrived on site, the dog suddenly attacked one of the officers and bit him several times.
He finally fended off the attack with one shot.
The dog was taken to a veterinary clinic, but died there from his injuries.
Investigations have been launched against its 45-year-old owner.
The child's presumed plight has not been confirmed.
The incident happened last Saturday.
