Sunday morning, a pleasure boat sank not far from Dunkirk, in the North.

The two occupants of the boat were rescued and brought back safe and sound to port thanks to the intervention of another boater and lifeguards at sea.

It was around 9 am that the pleasure vessel "Akilon" contacted the Gris-Nez regional operational surveillance and rescue center (Cross) by radio to report that it was the victim of a major waterway.

At this time, two people are on board the ship which is in the Saint-Pol jetty sector.

The boat sinks in 40 minutes

A lifeguard boat was mobilized to get there and a warning message was sent to all nearby ships to help the "Akilon".

Less than fifteen minutes later, a boater reaches the site of the sinking and manages to recover the two occupants of the "Akilon" on board.

Lifeguards arrived at 9:30 am and the "Akilon" sank less than twenty minutes later.

The wreck, from which no pollution escapes, is secured and notified via a message to all navigators to avoid an accident.

The two castaways were able to return to dry land at the port of Dunkirk shortly before noon.

They are safe and sound.
