 "

I have rarely had the feeling as much as today of living a moment of history

", declared the emblematic chairman of the supervisory board of PSA, Louis Gallois, who is retiring following the merger. of PSA with Fiat Chrysler.

A page turns for this great captain of industry.

This 77-year-old enarque, a graduate of HEC, began his career at the Treasury Department, before heading the cabinet of Jean-Pierre Chevènement at the Ministry of Industry.

This is how he landed in the aeronautical sector.

He became, first, the CEO of Snecma, a manufacturer of aircraft engines, then of Aerospace, in 1992.

Left boss

Four years later, he was appointed head of the SNCF.

He returned to SNCF in an extremely tense context.

He will stay there ten years and leaves the image of a boss broken in social dialogue, respected by the railway workers.

This is where he will forge a reputation as a leftist boss, concerned about social issues.

He then took over as head of the European aeronautics and defense group EADS, now Airbus Group.

Very attached to economic patriotism within this European group, Louis Gallois defends the interests of the State and the shareholders, but is also respected by the unions.

At EADS, he donates a large part of his remuneration to associations.

State confidence man

From 2014, Louis Gallois joined PSA (Peugeot-Citroën) where he chaired the group's supervisory board.

He replaces Thierry Peugeot to form a tandem at the head of the French automotive group, alongside Carlos Tavares, former Renault number two.

Louis Gallois chairs the supervisory board of PSA, while Carlos Tavares is leading the operational recovery of the French automotive group.

Following the merger with Fiat Chrysler, Louis Gallois will leave the supervisory board of PSA.

But it will continue its civic commitments, at the Factory of Industry, a laboratory of ideas for employers, for employment and the fight against poverty.
