The fire broke out on Sunday evening for reasons unknown to date in a multi-generation house in Lauchröden (Wartburg district), as the police announced.
Rescue workers had tried to reanimate the child - but it still succumbed to its injuries on site.
The other eight residents survived the fire.
Two of them were seriously injured.
