Rüsselsheim / Frankfurt (dpa / lhe) - The police caught a man in the Rüsselsheim train station who is said to have previously sprayed an ICE train with paint.

The 48-year-old had gloves and several spray cans with him, the federal police announced on Monday.

The officers had received a reference to a sprayer in the station area early on Sunday evening.

The tracks were then closed to train traffic and searched.

The police came across the 48-year-old.

They also found that an ICE parked in the station area had been sprayed with paint on an area of around 250 square meters.

The arrested person was later released and investigations into property damage are ongoing.

It is not clear how high the damage is.

"It can be assumed, however, that a considerable amount of work will be necessary on the part of Deutsche Bahn AG to clean the train again," said the federal police.

Because of the temporary track closures, a total of 13 trains were delayed.
