Berlin (dpa / bb) - Berlin's Senator for Health Dilek Kalayci (SPD) has campaigned for the lockdown in Germany to be extended.

The numbers in Berlin are “still worrying,” she said on Monday evening in the rbb “evening show”.

There are currently around 5000 new infections per week - "and we want to go down to 1000."

Kalayci spoke of a long way.

"And the winter will be hard," said the senator.

She called on people to discipline.

"And I hope this lockdown continues until the end of January."

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the heads of government of the federal states want to discuss an extension of the lockdown to contain the corona pandemic on Tuesday (11 a.m.).

In the past few days it has already been indicated that public life will not be restarted for the time being.

The majority of the prime ministers and the federal government are in favor of extending the restrictions by three weeks until the end of January.

In Berlin, after a break of several days over the turn of the year, people have been vaccinated against the corona virus in the arena hall in the Treptow district since Monday.

Kalayci said there wasn't enough vaccine to make more appointments.

So far, almost 18,000 vaccinations have been made in Berlin.
