The Disney + streaming platform will expand its offer in films and series from the end of February with the arrival in France of a new service called Star, resulting in an increase of two euros in the subscription, according to a press release published on Monday.

After content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and the 30 seasons of The Simpsons, Disney + will strengthen its catalog from February 23 with this new brand which will include "thousands of hours of films and series", indicates the group.

Launched in France and several other countries in Europe, Star, a sort of international version of the American Hulu site, targets an adult audience.

Its integration will lead to an increase in the monthly subscription to 8.99 euros against 6.99 euros currently.

Star's content will come from "the group's various studios, including Disney Television Studios, FX, 20th Century Studios, 20th Television and Touchstone, to which French and European content will be added," said Disney.

Among the programs expected in 2021 on Star, the series "Big Sky", "Love Victor", "Solar opposites", "Black-Ish" or the serial adaptation of the cult film "Alien".

This catalog enrichment is a consequence of the acquisition by the Disney group of most of the assets of 21st Century Fox.

It foreshadows ever fiercer competition between streaming services, particularly American streaming services such as Amazon Prime Video, Netflix or Apple TV +.

Disney + announced in December that it had exceeded its objectives with the conquest of 86.8 million subscribers worldwide since its launch in November 2019.
