Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - "How many people can I meet at home?"

A chatbot of the state government on the Internet answers these and other questions about the corona pandemic and the associated regulations.

Corey, as the digital offering is called, around 1.7 million questions have been asked by more than one million users since its launch in April 2020.

"It was a test - and the test is successful," said Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) at the turn of the year.

In December alone, around 270,000 people turned to Corey with their questions.

First the "Schwäbische Zeitung" reported.

"For example, if you develop cold symptoms overnight, Corey can tell you what to do and who to turn to," Strobl said.

So far, users have mainly had questions about contact restrictions, for example when it comes to meetings in private rooms or family celebrations.

According to the Home Office, Corey has around 20 different answers on this subject.

Many questions also deal with travel or depend on the seasons.

In summer, for example, the regulations for barbecues or weddings were often queried.

Most recently, Christmas, New Year's Eve and everything to do with vaccinations determined communication with the chatbot.

The first corona chatbot was used in March 2020 at the Ortenaukreis district office.

A short time later, Corey was set up on this basis and integrated into the state government's website.

Eleven other city and district administrations also use the chatbot.

The answers are regularly updated and adapted.

With a chatbot, users can ask questions that are then answered automatically.
