Assange was taken to court to announce the decision on extradition to the United States

In the courtroom, he is supported by his common-law wife Stella Morris, as well as the editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks Kristinn Hrafnsson, the agency specifies.

The extradition hearing began on May 2, 2019.

If extradited to the United States, Assange faces up to 175 years in prison.

Earlier, the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Nils Meltzer, published an open letter to the American leader Donald Trump, in which he called for pardon for Assange.

Assange, accused of sexual harassment and rape in Sweden in 2010, has been hiding in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London since June 2012.

On the morning of April 11, 2019, he was detained at the request of the United States.

A London court found him guilty of violating bail conditions and sentenced him to 11 months in prison. 

At the end of May 2019, the American authorities announced that they had brought new charges against Assange for 17 episodes of violation of the espionage and secret information disclosure law.
