He wrote about this on his Twitter page.
In his message, Modi called this a "decisive turning point" in the fight against infection.
"We are proud that both vaccines approved for emergency use are manufactured in India," he added.
Earlier in India, a British strain of coronavirus was isolated for the first time in the world.
