The Egyptian government Medicines Authority approved the Chinese vaccine against the emerging corona virus, according to what Egyptian Minister of Health, Hala Zayed, announced.

In a television interview broadcast yesterday evening by MBC Egypt, Zayed said that the Egyptian Drug Authority had issued the official license for the vaccine produced by the Chinese company, Sinopharma.

The effectiveness of this vaccine is more than 79%, according to the company.

The first shipment of the vaccine arrived in Egypt in December and includes 50,000 doses.

Hala Zayed explained that the vaccination with this vaccine will start upon the arrival of the second batch, which will include 50,000 additional doses, explaining that this shipment is expected to arrive between the second and third weeks of January.

And it announced that Egypt, which has a population of 100 million, will buy 40 million doses of the Chinese vaccine, 20 million doses of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine, and 40 million doses through the World Health Organization.

The minister added that she expects the first shipment of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine in the third or fourth week of January.

She emphasized that vaccination against the new Corona virus in Egypt "will not be free for everyone," and that there will be a mechanism to provide it for free to those who are unable.

On the other hand, the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population announced the registration of 1,407 new infections with the emerging coronavirus, and 54 deaths.

The spokesman for the ministry, Khaled Mujahid, stated that 654 people had recovered from the "Covid-19" disease caused by the virus, and were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total of those recovering from the virus to 113480 people until yesterday evening.

Mujahid stated that the total number of infections that were recorded in Egypt with the Coronavirus until the day before yesterday reached 140,878, and the total number of deaths rose to 7,741.
