Former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki sent a congratulatory message to Al-Jazeera Net and its employees on the occasion of its twentieth birthday, praising the successes achieved by the site during its career, especially in conveying the voice of the Arab Spring revolutions.
In a video message to him, Al-Marzouki said, "Al-Jazeera Net celebrates his birthday at a time when the Arab peoples celebrate the tenth anniversary of the outbreak of the blessed revolutions, the revolutions of the Arab Spring."
He added that Al-Jazeera Net "played an important and significant role in the outbreak of these revolutions, with what it provided to people like me of the ability to express and the ability to push these ideas that were produced this spring."
He said, "The Arab Spring does not have one father, but rather it has dozens, if not hundreds of fathers, and we count among them the professionals on Al Jazeera and Al Jazeera Net, and of course behind them is a person - who will be aware of its great importance by historians - who was behind this continuous support for the Arab Spring revolutions, and he is the Father Prince." Al-Marzouki concluded his message by saying, "To all the well-known and unknown fathers and mothers of the Arab Spring who worked behind the scenes or in front of it, I tell them one simple word: Thank you for doing the duty and the more than the duty."
Marzouki was and still is one of the authors of opinion articles on Al Jazeera Net, and he was keen on writing articles for the site even as he was president of Tunisia (between 2011 and 2014).
