Cologne (dpa) - New year, old grief: 1. FC Köln did not win the first home game in 2021 and has now been waiting for a Bundesliga success in their own stadium for 13 games and almost a year.

Against fear opponents FC Augsburg, Cologne lost on Saturday in a very tough game of the 14th matchday with 0: 1 (0: 0).

Most recently, FC celebrated a home win in a 3-0 win over FC Schalke 04 on February 29, 2020 - at that time with 50,000 spectators.

After a decent final spurt in 2020, Cologne is still in 15th place with eleven points, which would be enough to save it at the end of the season.

At the end of the year, the Augsburgers, which were a little weak at the end of the year, are in the middle of the field with 19 points, and the European Cup ranks are much closer than the relegation zone.

Against their favorite opponent Cologne, the Swabians remained unbeaten for the twelfth time in a row.

The Brazilian Iago scored the winning goal with his first goal of the season (77th minute).

The Augsburgers showed the more mature play system and were initially also dominant.

In the seventh minute they cheered, but prematurely: Florian Niederlechner had been offside with his header goal.

Bitter for the 30-year-old, whom many believed to be an insider tip for the national team after ten goals this season last January;

because this season it would have been his first goal on the twelfth mission.

Then a kind of tactical arm wrestling developed.

And it felt like an eternity before a team approached the opposing goal again: Since Niederlechner's header was not included in the statistics, a header from Cologne's Sebastian Bornauw following a corner in the 36th minute was the very first ball of the game, the really went on goal.

Augsburg goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz parried quickly.

After the change, the game was hardly livelier, although Cologne was now a little better.

Gikiewicz steered a deflected shot from Marius Wolf over the bar (55th).

And a quarter of an hour later, the ex-Dortmund wolf had a huge chance to take the lead when the ball fell centrally ten meters in front of the goal in front of his feet, but he warped.

After an hour, FC coach Markus Gisdol brought concentrated experience with Anthony Modeste, who now acted as a real striker in his 100th Bundesliga game for FC, as well as captain and ex-national player Jonas Hector, who is slowly returning after a long neck injury becomes.

Niederlechner then scored again (73rd) - but was again offside and finally seemed to be the unlucky person of the day.

But then he gave the template for Iago's winning goal.
