Würzburg (dpa / lby) - The newly formed Würzburger Kickers want to start the race to catch up in the 2nd Bundesliga in the first game of the new year.

Coach Bernhard Trares declared January the month of the bottom of the table.

After all, the last one in the table starts with an English week.

This Saturday (1 p.m.) the Karlsruher SC will be playing at the Kickers.

Four days later, the catch-up game follows against the penultimate FC St. Pauli.

Finally, on January 9th, there is an away game at VfL Osnabrück.

"January is a really important month," said Trares.

The 55-year-old knows that after only four points from the twelve games played so far, a series has to be started.

“We have to start winning games at some point,” said the third Kickers head coach of a season that has been completely screwed up so far.

Trares reported that they had "shaken again" at the turn of the year and were also repositioning themselves.

During the short Christmas break, the newly promoted full-back Rolf Feltscher (Los Angeles Galaxy) and veteran Stefan Maierhofer (Admira Wacker) signed.

"We want to roll up the field from behind," announced the 38-year-old attacker Maierhofer resolutely.

The newcomers are not yet eligible to play against KSC.

Maierhofer and Feltscher could only appear for the first time against Pauli.

Another winter transfer is planned for the Czech midfielder Martin Hasek.

Compared to the 0: 2 with a Notelf in Darmstadt, the personnel situation has improved even without the new hopefuls because the corona quarantine of several players has expired.

In addition, the most recently suspended central defender, Ewerton, is available again.

KSC coach Christian Eichner expressed respect for the task at the Kickers.

He recalled many of the “close games” of the Würzburg team, which they would have lost with only one goal difference: “Under Bernhard Trares they are now also bringing good stability to the pitch.”
