Weismain (dpa / lby) - A fireworks rocket probably triggered a roof fire on New Year's Eve in Weismain, Upper Franconia (Lichtenfels district).

According to the police, the rocket got stuck on a brick shortly after midnight and set the roof on fire.

Because of the quick reaction of two witnesses, the residents could have left their apartment and informed the fire department, the police said on Friday.

The fire was quickly extinguished.

The damage was estimated at around 10,000 euros.

Another roof structure caught fire in Forchheim in Upper Franconia.

There, too, the police suspected a New Year's rocket as the cause of the fire.

The fire in an empty building caused damage of around 25,000 euros.

Nobody got hurt.
