Karlsruhe (dpa / lsw) - A bicycle lying on the ground with the lights switched on has alerted a patrol of the police dog handler to a seriously injured cyclist.

"Only on closer inspection could the unconscious driver be found lying under his bicycle," said the officials in Karlsruhe on Friday.

The police initiated the first rescue measures on Wednesday evening, during which the 32-year-old regained consciousness.

In the hospital, doctors found a cerebral haemorrhage.

The man had just under 1.8 per mille of alcohol.

The investigators assume that he fell on his bike without the assistance of others.
