The Government delegate in
Madrid
,
José Manuel Franco
, has called the drone a "macabre joke" that flew over last night during the bells of
Puerta del Sol
with a black crepe and a flag of Spain, circumventing the security controls.
In an interview on Cadena Ser, picked up by Europa Press, Franco stressed that "any kind of macabre joke is not the most appropriate at this time" when asked about this incident.
Last night, Puerta del Sol had its
most atypical
New Year's Eve
as it was empty without an audience that drank the grapes like every year.
The emptiness of the Madrid square was filled only for a few minutes with the performance of the musician Nacho Cano and the singer Kuve in a tribute to the victims of the
Covid
.
The drone would have circumvented the security of the perimeter and could be seen during the emission of the chimes.
Specifically, it slipped into the side face of the Puerta del Sol clock.
The National Police and the Municipal Police of Madrid have no record of the drone, whose provenance is unknown, according to police sources consulted by Europa Press.
