Bad Krozingen (dpa / lsw) - After the devastating earthquake in Croatia, fire brigades from Baden-Württemberg send 15 trucks with relief supplies to the region.

Within two days, a lot of equipment, clothing, hygiene items and food had come together, said the former Vice President of the Baden-Württemberg State Fire Brigade Association, Gerd Lai, on Friday evening in Bad Krozingen (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district).

From there, the aid convoy should take about 15 hours to reach its destination.

Many regional fire brigades from the southwest and the regional association followed Lai's initiative and collected donations.

But private individuals also donated material and stores cleared entire shelves, said the firefighter.

Among the donations are chocolate Santas for the children.

So much came together that a second trip will follow in a few days.

On Tuesday, a 6.4 magnitude quake devastated the small towns of Sisak, Petrinja and Glina as well as villages in between in the central region of the EU and holiday country.

Seven people were killed.

There have been several aftershocks since then.

With the action, the firefighters from the southwest want to help their comrades and the people in the earthquake region.

According to the information, there is a close partnership between the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald District Fire Brigade Association and some fire departments in Baden-Württemberg and the Croatian Fire Brigade Association.

Contacts have been maintained through regular mutual visits since the end of the war in the 1990s.
