Mainz (dpa / lrs) - New Year's Eve with corona restrictions started quietly in Rhineland-Palatinate.

"So far we have not had any major missions," said a police spokesman on Thursday evening in Mainz.

"All calm" was the message from the other praesidia.

The police had announced that they wanted to work with the municipal regulatory authorities to check whether people in the country were complying with the corona rules.

She wanted to punish violations consistently.

The usual New Year's Eve celebrations have to be canceled this year due to the corona pandemic.

No firecrackers or rockets are allowed to be detonated on numerous streets and squares.

In any case, the sale of fireworks before New Year's Eve was not allowed this year.

Overall, crowds of people should be avoided so that the coronavirus does not spread even more.

Celebrating outside together is therefore not allowed, as is drinking alcohol in public.

The general contact restrictions also apply.

In some municipalities there are also night exit restrictions in force.

People there are only allowed to leave their apartments between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. if they have a “valid reason” to do so.
