  The Ministry of Justice of South Korea stated on the 31st that the day before, the fourth comprehensive test was conducted on 465 employees and 1,298 inmates of the Seoul Eastern Detention Center where former South Korean President Lee Myung-bak was detained. As a result, 126 people were diagnosed with the new crown.

There are still 14 people whose results have not been published.

  So far, the number of confirmed cases in the detention center has reached 918.

  On the other hand, South Korea’s Deputy Minister of Justice (Deputy Minister) Lee Rong-jeou stated on the 31st that the Ministry of Justice will implement Level 3 measures for epidemic prevention and response to prison places across the country for a period of two weeks.

From that day to January 13, 2021, detainees’ visits to prisons and education and other activities have been fully suspended, and employees will also enter emergency work conditions and cannot carry out external activities such as travel.

  In order to reduce the population density of eastern detention centers to prevent cluster infections, the Ministry of Justice is considering sending some detainees to other detention centers.

The Ministry of Justice also plans to release some detainees such as forced laborers, people with basic diseases, and model prisoners on parole, and conduct rapid antigen testing for all staff and detainees in detention centers.
