- It is an exceptional year coming to an end.

All the countries of the world have been affected by the corona pandemic.

More clearly than otherwise, we have seen that, despite everything that differs, we are a single humanity living under the same sky, says Archbishop Antje Jackelén, in a press release.

In Skåne alone, 666 people with covid-19 have died so far since the beginning of the pandemic.

For some, funerals and memorial services could not take place as usual due to the prevailing restrictions.

There is hope

- The fight against the virus and its mutations will continue even in 2021 and require perseverance and courage.

At the same time, there is hope that vaccines will speed up the process towards lighter restrictions.

There is reason to pay special attention to the upcoming turn of the year, says the archbishop.

On New Year's Eve, therefore, the bells of all the cathedrals in the country will ring in memory of those who passed away during the year.

In Lund, the church bells ring between 18.00 and 18.10.

The bells of other churches may also be connected to the bells of the cathedrals.

At midnight, as usual, the bells of the cathedrals will ring in the new year.
