Berlin (dpa / bb) - Berlin's Interior Senator Andreas Geisel (SPD) and the SPD state chairwoman, Federal Family Minister Franziska Giffey, visited Berlin police officers on their New Year's Eve mission in the afternoon.

At the Großer Stern, both politicians met a hundred-year-old, found out about the upcoming deployment and thanked the officials for the work they did.

The police are on duty at night with around 2900 troops.

Due to the Corona crisis, there are special conditions this year: In dozen of restricted areas, the burning of fireworks is prohibited.

The Senate had also ordered a ban on the sale of firecrackers and rockets.

Injuries and crowds of people should be prevented in this way.

Nevertheless, the police and fire brigade prepared for New Year's Eve in the usual way.
