This is a case that has sparked widespread outrage in Sudan: a man was killed during questioning by the Rapid Support Forces.

Bahaa el-Din Nouri was kidnapped

on December 16 in a cafe in the south of Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, by men in civilian clothes in a car without license plates.

His body was found five days later.

The family refused to bury him after discovering traces of beatings and torture.

On December 29, in Khartoum, hundreds of people marched through the streets in homage to this new "

martyr

", demanding that all justice be done.

The funeral procession started in front of the hospital morgue, where Bahaa el-Din Nouri's body was found a week after his disappearance.

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered around the family of the deceased.

On banners, one could read among other things "

stop shedding people's blood

 ".

Slogans that directly targeted the Rapid Support Forces.

Not an isolated case

Under the pressure of a case which has taken on immense proportions, the head of these paramilitary units and current number two of the Sovereign Council, General Hemedti, ordered the lifting of the immunity of the men involved in this affair.

As for the investigation, the second autopsy of Bahaa el-Din Nouri's body testified that he had indeed been tortured.

The director of the Omdurman mortuary was also sacked.

The procession then passed through Khartoum, towards the cemetery of Kalakla, the neighborhood where Bahaa el-Din Nouri lived.

In a speech, the brother of the deceased recalled that this tragedy was not an isolated case.

The crowd implored that justice be done for "

all the martyrs of the revolution

" and in particular for the victims

of the dispersion of the sit-in on June 3, 2019 in front of the HQ of the army.

Bahaa el-Din Nouri's face may well become a symbol against the impunity that reigns in many cases in Sudan.
