Ahrensburg / Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - The two short first names Ben and Mia were the most popular first names for newborns in Saxony-Anhalt in 2020, according to a ranking by first name expert Knud Bielefeld.
Mia has already been at the top of the statistics in recent years, as can be seen from the annual survey by the hobby name researcher from Ahrensburg (Schleswig-Holstein).
Ben moved from third place to the top position.
Last year, Finn was in first place.
For the girls, the names Frieda and Hannah ended up in second and third place in 2020, for the boys it was Finn and Matteo.
According to statistics from Bielefeld, Mia also made the race for the most popular first name for girls across Germany.
Emilia and Hannah followed.
For boys, Noah was the most frequently given name of a newborn, followed by Ben and Matteo.
Compared to other federal states, Carlo, Pepe, Willi, Elisabeth and Martha were particularly common first names in Saxony-Anhalt last year.
Since there are no official German first name statistics, Bielefeld regularly determines the most common baby names.
