The facts took place on the night of Wednesday 23 to Thursday 24 December in Lussac-les-Châteaux, in Vienne.

That evening, a man threatened his ex-girlfriend with a crossbow before putting it under his own chin to fake suicide, reports La Nouvelle République.

Arrested, the defendant was sentenced to seven months in prison, four of which are closed, but he was released.

"I did not aim it, anyway the weapon does not work any more and it was not loaded [...] I did not want to come to this.

I went too far, ”he tried to defend himself at the hearing according to the regional daily.

The couple were already separated but the man was still living with his partner and children, awaiting a new home.
